The Met Office has warned of a danger to life as parts of the UK are hit by Storm Ashley. Winds of 80mph are predicted in places, with the first named storm of the season "likely" to bring a threat of injuries, the weather agency said.

Yellow warnings stretch from Scotland down to western England and parts of the Midlands. A Met Office weather warning said: "Parts of western Scotland are likely to see gusts of 70-80mph at times on Sunday afternoon, before winds ease through the evening and overnight.

Dozens of flights have been cancelled at Belfast City Airport and Dublin Airport as Storm Ashley continues to cause disruption. The Met office has issued an amber warning for western counties from 13:00 BST to 20:00.

More than 100 flood warnings remained in place across the UK on Monday after Storm Ashley made its presence felt.

A yellow alert for strong winds is in place from 12am to 9am on Monday. The Met Office warns that strong winds from Storm Ashley may bring further impacts across the north and east of Scotland and northeast England before it moves away.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind from 03:00 BST on Sunday until noon on Monday.
